Department of Commerce and Research Centre

The Department of Commerce is an active and vibrant Department with a good track record for the past 45 years. The Department of Commerce is recognised by the Madurai Kamaraj University as a Research Centre for pursuing Ph.D., programme in Commerce. Besides, the Department offers M.Phil., M.Com., B.Com., B.Com (Computer Applications) programmes.

    The Nobel objectine of the department is to produce socially responsible graduates with individual takents and skills to face the national as well as global challenges af the present time.

    Programme Offered

    B.Com

    Bachelor of commerce Degree programme was started in1972-73 under semester system in thier course 64 is the sanctioned strength. Candidates must have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations of the Government of Tamilnadu with commerce & Accountarancy Subjects .

    M.Com

    Master of Commerce Degree Programme was started in 1981-82 under semester system. In this course 72 (36+36) is the sanctioned strength. A candidate who has passed any one of the degrees namely B.Com., B.Com (CA), B.Com (Corporate Secretaryship), B.B.A, B.B.M., B.A.(Cooperation), B.A (Business Economics), B.A (Industrial Organisation), B.Sc (Mathematics with Accountancy, and costing or Banking as allied) ancillary subjects, B.Sc (Computer Science with accounting / costing as allied) ancillary subject.
    Special features:
    This Course offers advanced Accountency, Advanced Bussiness statistics, Project management, FMS, CRM, Taxation, Banking technology, Security Analysis and portfolio management & Research Methodology.

    M.Phil

    Since, it's in caption, 31 scholars have Qualified for M.Phil Degree from this research centre.

    Ph.D

    Upto 2018, 43 doctorates were produced by this departments 7 scholars have submitted thir Ph.D thesis and 5 scholars are doing research.

    Department Details

    The department has a separate library with 3200 books for M.Com, M.Phil and Ph.D students. Students make use of the books and journals. .
    A smart class room is provided for the students to take seminar and for guest lectures. The department has three computers for the above said purpose. There is a separate reading room in the department library for PG students. The department has added text books to the general library and department library.
    LCD projector facility is available with the department which is used for guest lectures and taking seminar classes. Audio system is installed in the classes for effective teaching.
