Programme Offered: B.Sc(Maths) & M.Sc(Maths)

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1975 with Under Graduate programme and upgraded as Post Graduate Department in the year 1986. The Department consists of 10 teaching staff. The Department has been producing exemplary results and university rank holders right from its inception. The Department is constantly concentrating on the overall development of students. So far forty-three batches of Under Graduate students and thirty-three batches of Post Graduate students have successfully finished their courses and professionally placed as Auditors, Income tax officers, Assistant commissioner of police, Lawyers, Project leaders, HR in various MNC and in government services. Many students have joined in prestigious institutions like M.I.T., I.I.T., C.M.I., M.K.U., Sourashtra College, etc., for their higher studies and have been well placed in various field in India and abroad. The Department library consists of approximately 1500 books which is useful for lending purpose to students and staff. Department is equipped with 2 computers and one printer. We have well-furnished classrooms and a separate room with LCD Projector for conducting seminars. The Department motivates the students to take part in all the job oriented competitive examinations like UPSC., SSC., TNPSC., RRB., NET, SLET, Bank exams etc., The Department has separate library (Donors book bank) with more than 200 books related to job oriented competitive examinations donated by the Staff members of the Department and Alumni. The Department is providing RO water to all students which is sponsored by department Alumni.

MISSION

  • To guide, teach mathematical knowledge and support the students towards mathematical excellence by embracing them into our group of mathematicians, share our ideas, grow in knowledge and thus improving their capabilities and apply all learned concepts to excel in all fields.
  • To develop quantitative, computational, reasoning, problem solving skills and critical thinking for the upcoming mathematicians to model, formulate and solve real life applications.
  • To encourage and upgrade the students’ knowledge with strong foundational skills and abilities to pursue higher studies and research.
  • To impart skills leading to employability and entrepreneurship

Objectives

The objective of the course is to equip the students well versed with both theoretical and practical knowledge as per the curriculum. The Department Staff encourage the students in such a way that when they complete their course, they become highly responsible citizens, with adequate knowledge and self-confidence so that they can face their future with courage and faith.

Eligibility for Admission

The candidate should have passed HSC examination with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects.

Duration of the programme

The duration of the course for B.Sc., (Mathematics) is three academic years comprising six semesters with two semesters in each academic year.
The duration of the course for M.Sc., (Mathematics) is two academic years comprising four semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

Course Contents

The course contains important subjects from pure mathematics, applied mathematics and Computer Languages. In addition that it contains Allied papers in Physics.

6. The Department conducts various awareness programme, carrier guidance programme with the help of Alumni and experts from various fields by arranging thought provoking lecture, seminars and workshop.
7. To evaluate students performance the department conducts various tests like unit tests, internal tests, seminars and quiz programme etc.,
8. The Department encourages all the students to take part in all the co-curricular activities including sports, NCC, NSS, YRC, RRC, WUS, and CCC etc.,
